W. Hardy Interactive Launches Online Training System for Sun Microsystems
SAN FRANCISCO, CA [March 24, 2008] – W. Hardy Interactive today announced the launch of SunStudentCourses.com, an on-line training school for Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA). W. Hardy built the system using the popular open-source course management system, Moodle (www.Moodle.org), used by thousands of schools and universities across the world. W. Hardy also hosts the website on its high-availability servers at its facility in San Francisco.
In its initial launch, the website includes two comprehensive courses on Sun technologies including JavaFX and Solaris. Each is sponsored by teachers and training coordinators on staff at Sun Microsystems. Once enrolled, students can participate in courses by reviewing material, completing assignments, taking quizzes and if receiving a passing grade, obtaining a certificate. The system also allows students to collaborate (with each other and teachers) through forums and provides Sun staff with comprehensive reporting on course activity.
To achieve the goal of launching this new system using Sun technology exclusively, W. Hardy adapted the Moodle course management system to allow for deployment on Sun's operating system Solaris. "We had to overcome several hurdles to run the system with the Sun Java System Application Server and Solaris," states W. Hardy Interactive President Walter Hardy, "a series of innovations allowed us to succeed in deployment under this powerful software and server combination." SunStudentCourses.com also uses Sun's newly-acquired open source database, MySQL (www.MySQL.com) under the Solaris operating system.
